So can Strasbourg cause a little trouble this weekend, or will PSG show their dominance once again?
Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain head-to-head and key stats
- Unlike many Ligue 1 opponents, Strasbourg’s recent record against PSG isn’t bad at all. They have avoided defeat in their last two games against them – a draw and a win in the other – and have only lost to them three times in their last six games.
- Strasbourg continued their excellent form under new manager Gary O’Neill last weekend as they beat Lille 1-4 in one of their best performances of the season. Under O’Neill’s leadership, Strasbourg has now won three games, scored ten goals and conceded only two.
- PSG had a disappointing week in Europe, being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Newcastle after Ousmane Dembélé missed a penalty. The result means Luis Enrique’s side miss out on the top eight spots in the Champions League, forcing them to face Ligue 1 side Monaco in the play-offs to reach the last 16.
- Although Strasbourg’s form has improved under Gary O’Neill, their overall recent form has remained stable regardless. They will remain unbeaten in eight games in all competitions, with their last defeat coming on December 6.
- Of course, PSG are in better shape. In Ligue 1, they have lost just one of their last ten games and won eight in the same order. They scored 22 goals in this round and conceded only 7 goals.
Strasbourg vs Paris Saint-Germain Prediction
On paper at least, this promises to be one of PSG’s toughest tests of the season. Strasbourg are in good form, have some dangerous attackers and are looking bright under new manager Gary O’Neill. Additionally, PSG will have less time off after their European fixtures on Wednesday.
Still, PSG have performed well domestically, steamrolling most of their opponents, although not all of their recent victories have been one-sided.
Considering this match ended in a draw when the two sides met earlier in the season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar finish. However, with Lens still in pursuit, it felt like PSG needed a win – and probably got it.
prophecy: Strasbourg 2-3 Paris Saint-Germain
