Sam Curran became the second England bowler to take a hat-trick in a men’s T20 international as his team beat Sri Lanka by 11 runs in a rain-curtailed series opener at Pallekele.
Curran (3-38) scored a total of 35 runs in the first two overs of the 17-over format, with Dasan Shanaka (20 off 16) and Mahish Tikshana (0) catching consecutive balls before bowling Mathesa Patialana (0).
The 27-year-old took a hat-trick in the 16th over to equal the feat achieved by Surrey teammate Chris Jordan, who took three wickets for England against the United States in Barbados during the 2024 T20 World Cup.
