Past Premier League, Champions League and World Cup winning stars are among the 12-man squad as England and World Cup meet in Bangkok for the second game of the two-day event.
Michael Carrick was due to feature for England but withdrew after being appointed Manchester United manager, but who is involved and how does it work?
Here’s everything you need to know before Saturday’s broadcast starts at 1am sky sports golf…
What is it and where will it be played?
The event features 24 former professional football players divided into two teams, one from England and one from the rest of the world, with both teams captained by former Ryder Cup players.
This is the second consecutive year held at the Reignwood Park Golf Course in Thailand. It is an 18-hole course owned by the same owners as the iconic Wentworth Club in Surrey (home of the DP World Tour).
All tournaments will be played over 10 holes, featuring Ryder Cup-style match play, using a variety of formats and giving players plenty of additional ways to earn points for their teams.
Who is the captain?
Danny WillettThe 2016 Masters champion, eight-time DP World Tour champion, and captain of the England team. World Team will be captain Thomas BjornLed Team Europe to win the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Neither captain will feature as players and will replace Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia, who captained both teams at the 2025 World Cup.
Who is playing for England?
Correct as of January 28th:
Jimmy Bullard, Andy Cole, Robbie Fowler, Joe Hart, Paul Ince, Phil Jagielka, Jermaine Janus, Phil Jones, Lee Sharp, Teddy Sheringham, John Terry and Theo Walcott
Who stars in “Team World”?
Correct as of January 28th:
Gareth Bale, Gabriel Baptiste, Ryan Giggs, David Ginola, Ruud Littlek, Nigel de Jong, Henrik Larsson, Aaron Ramsey, John Arne Riise, Andriy Shevchenko, Dwight Yorke, Gianfranco Zola
What is the format?
The tournament is divided into four games, with each game awarding points that help contribute to a team’s overall score.
The opening match will be played as a four-ball match, pitting two players from the England team against two players from the World team. The player with the fewest strokes on a hole wins the hole for their team.
The next two sessions are played in a “greensomes” format, with each pair choosing the best of two tee shots and then playing the rest of the hole with alternating shots from that ball. The team with the lowest score wins the hole.
The final event is a singles event where each member of the England team will play a 10-hole match against a member of the World team.
How does scoring work?
Each event is played over 10 holes, with match play scoring – just like we saw at the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. A team is awarded one point for winning a game, but games won by 4up or more will provide bonus points.
Each game has a “home” and “away” hole, with the World team’s home team being the sixth hole and England’s home team being the ninth hole. If the away team wins the hole, the game is worth double.
The 10th and final hole is also doubled in value, increasing the importance of every shot in every match!
Bonus points will be awarded for “Best Shot of the Day” on Saturday, with viewers at home choosing their favorite shot from four options, which will then be added to the team’s overall score.
What time does the game start? When will Sky Sports broadcast live?
Sky Sports will extend its broadcast coverage over both days, with Sky Sports Golf live on Saturday and Sunday at 1am.
Coverage for the second event will be at 6.30am on Saturday and 6am on Sunday, with live coverage on Sky Sports+ and Sky Sports Golf leading up to the start of the Bahrain Championship.
The first match of the four-ball tournament will start at 8.30am local time (1.30am UK time) on Saturday, with the second match starting at 6.35am UK time.
Sunday’s alternating strokes match starts at 1am UK time, with the final singles match starting at around 6am that morning (1pm Bangkok) until the last putt is completed.
Who won last year’s game?
England won three of their four games at last year’s tournament, beating World Team 72-33 and dominating the final singles to extend their lead.
