Missing out on Semenho this month, coupled with a lack of transfer activity, has seen the club’s hierarchy come under criticism from fans, but Frank backs their approach.

Asked if there was a possibility that Tottenham would not sign any more players ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline, Frank replied: “The club works tirelessly to try their best to improve the squad, especially John (Lange), Fabio (Paritich) and Vinay (Venkatesham), and all the people behind them.

“I mean, we can’t get too obsessed with short-term fixes that aren’t going to help the long-term, because if we don’t, then all the efforts we put in now are going to be limited in the future.

“That’s not to say we don’t want short-term success. I can guarantee the Lewis family is very committed to this project; they want to do everything.

“I will go against my rules, hopefully just once, and there is no doubt that the club obviously wants to sign Semenho.

“They’ve done everything – I think it’s a clear sign that the Lewis family is very committed. It’s a big signing financially and so on.

“So these are the players we are looking for to improve the quality of the squad and if we don’t find players like that then it’s better to make the right decision.

“Not just saying we’re just getting good players because we all know it’s not easy, but I’m sure if for whatever reason we can’t get another player or players in this window, then it’s going to be a big summer and I have no doubt we’ll see huge improvement there.”
