sugar returns to the puzzle with a new mystery this summer—and with it a reminder why sugaran Apple TV series starring Colin Farrell as a neo-noir type of gumshoe, covered by a website that focuses on sci-fi and fantasy. The sixth episode of the first season, “Go Home,” let viewers in on a big secret: Farrell’s character, the human lookalike John Sugar, is actually… an alien in disguise.

With that revelation out of the way, sugar will also let viewers know that other characters are extraterrestrials as well — including one who gets mixed up in a shady business, is sure to know important details about Sugar’s missing sister, and is up in the air for the season finale. So instead of taking the “last trip home,” as he had originally intended, Sugar decided there was enough on Earth to sustain him.

That twist is good news for fans, as it means a clear path for a second season. An Apple TV press release says, “John Sugar returns for a new case, tracking down the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as he continues his search for his beloved missing sister. As the investigation expands into a city-wide conspiracy with nefarious intentions, Sugar must consider himself to answer the question – how far will he go to do what’s right?”

Audiences may be completely up to speed on Sugar’s unusual origins, but most of the world is still in the dark about, you know, a multilingual alien and a huge film buff delving into the mysteries of Los Angeles. A new set of supporting characters is riding the new case, including Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, Sasha Calle, and Shea Whigham.

Apple TV also shared some first-look photos, featuring Sugar and some of the new faces.

sugar season two will run for eight episodes, beginning June 19 with a weekly drop thereafter.
