Former heavyweight champion says Usyk’s team reaches out to fight: ‘I want to be champion again’



Alexander Usyk Originally planned to face Deontay Wilder Next up, however, another former world champion has revealed that he is in the running to fight the reigning unified heavyweight ruler.

After that victory, some fans expected Usyk to hang up the gloves, but the 39-year-old revealed plans to continue fighting and has since withdrawn from the WBO world title so that he can choose his next opponent.

Usyk’s next fight against Wilder is shockingbut the former WBC champion now looks set to step into the ring to fight Derek Chisora.

“I want to be champion again. It’s funny because one of his guys contacted me and my team and said they’d like to fight me. It was either me, Wilder, or two other guys.”

Ruiz defeated Anthony Joshua in June 2019 to capture the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles, but lost the belts in a rematch six months later. The Mexican-American has fought three times since then, his last coming in August 2024 when he suffered a hand injury early in the fight, again resulting in a controversial draw with Jarrell Miller.
