Leon Goretzka will go Bayern Munich When his contract expires at the end of the season, the club confirmed this morning.
The German midfielder joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018 and has made nearly 300 appearances for the club.
He has won the Bundesliga six times as well as the Champions League with Bayern in 2020 but has chosen a new challenge.
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund said: “Leon feels very comfortable at this club and in this team. So, despite some high-class offers, he has decided to stay here until the end of the season.
“After open and constructive discussions, we agreed together that he will look for a different challenge from the summer. He will then be at FC Bayern for eight years – very successful years with a very strong person and player. Until the summer, Lyon wants to give everything to celebrate as many titles as possible with the team.”
It is likely that Goretzka will end his time in Bavaria with another Bundesliga title. Vincent Kompany’s side are eight points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund with 15 games in hand.
