Organizers of the “National Shutdown” movement called for “no school, no work, no shopping” on Friday, arguing that “enough is enough” after the fatal shootings in Minneapolis involving Alex Pretty and Renee Goode amid a federal immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

“The people of the Twin Cities have shown the way for the entire country – STOP ICE’s Reign of Terrorwe need to shut it down,” organizers wrote on their website.

Ocasio-Cortez, who has criticized the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics in the state, said her office will not close.

“Full disclosure – my office handles important casework, immigration case for the community. We will remain open tomorrow to continue providing community support and protecting immigrant families. ” she posted on Instagram.

Ocasio-Cortez later expressed her “full support for the national mobilization, general strike and mass movement work.”

Organizers of the shutdown claimed online that ICE and border patrol agent “They come into our communities to kidnap our neighbors and spread fear.”

The online campaign added, “Now is the time for us to stand up in the midst of a nationwide shutdown and say enough is enough.”

On January 23, the day before Pretty was shot and killed, thousands of anti-ICE protesters rallied to block federal immigration enforcement as part of the “ICE Out of Minnesota: Day of Truth and Freedom” march through downtown Minneapolis.
