Aaron Rodgers’ one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers was terminated after their wild-card playoff loss to the Houston Texans. While waiting for the four-time NFL MVP to make a decision on his future, the team made some changes to the coaching staff’s plans.

Mike Tomlin is resigning after 19 seasons as Steelers head coach. On Saturday, they hired Mike McCarthy as his replacement. The team will also hire James Campen as its new offensive line coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

Aaron Rodgers worked with Campen during his time with the Green Bay Packers. Schefter also shared an old post the quarterback made for the latter in 2021. It included a photo of himself hugging Capmen, accompanied by a heartwarming caption. The post quickly went viral, racking up over 850,000 views on X alone.

“This is James Campen, a former Green Bay Packers player and coach, but he was always more than just a coach. He has been a mentor, confidant, father figure, supporter and friend to many players over the past three decades.

“Almost any player who played for/with him over the years will attest that we are all better for being around Jimmy. My friend, you are a better person than a coach, and you are a great coach.”

James Campen plays for packers 1989 to 1993. After retiring, he joined the coaching staff in 2004. He was promoted to offensive line coach in 2007 and remained in that position until joining the Cleveland Browns in 2018.

Aaron Rodgers was drafted by the Packers in 2005 and spent several years with Campen. Since this hiring, there have been rumors that the Steelers are looking to bring Rodgers back by enticing him to reunite with his former coach.

Steelers honest about Aaron Rodgers extension possibility

After two disappointing seasons with the Jets, there are rumors that Aaron Rodgers may be hanging up his boots. However, he decided to return for one more season steelers.

Steelers owner Art Rooney II came out Sunday to discuss the quarterback’s future with the team. He said they gave him a limited amount of time to decide if he might return for another year.

“We don’t know what Aaron’s plans are right now and that doesn’t have a huge impact on our decision,” Looney said on the team’s website. “We’ll see where Aaron is, we’ve left the door open, but obviously we’ll all have to sit down and see if that makes sense. So that will happen sometime in the next month or so. But the decision is based on Mike being the coach we want and it has nothing to do with whether Aaron is going to come back.”

This season, Aaron Rodgers passed for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns during the regular season.
