An award-winning Palestinian journalist has regained his account with 1.4 million followers after being accidentally removed from the video-sharing platform.

Award-winning Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda says she has regained access to her TikTok account, a day after she said she was banned from the video-sharing platform.
Auda told Al Jazeera on Thursday that she credits international media attention and NGO pressure for helping her recover her TikTok account, although visitors and followers will now have to enter her full username to find her popular account on the site.

Owda also said she received messages from TikTok saying many of her video posts were now “ineligible for recommendations.”
Al Jazeera on Friday saw Owda’s TikTok account, which has 1.4 million followers, although the Gaza-based journalist has not made any new posts since September 2025.
Auda gained international recognition for posting daily videos from the war-torn Palestinian territories, greeting viewers in her regular video diaries during Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave, saying “This is bisan from Gaza, and I’m still alive”.
As a staff writer for Al Jazeera’s AJ+, Auda’s reporting earned her journalism’s highest honors, including an Emmy, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Award.
Owda reminded followers on Wednesday that her account had been deleted, noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is suspected of committing war crimes in Gaza, had said he hoped the TikTok acquisition “will be successful because it could have serious consequences.”
Despite ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli attacks on enclave continue, with continued Israeli attacks last week Killing of three Palestinian journalists within the territory.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 207 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, the “vast majority” of them by Israeli forces.

Al Jazeera contacted TikTok for comment, but a spokesperson said the company does not comment on specific accounts.
A TikTok spokesperson told The New Arab that Owda’s account was “temporarily restricted” in September due to concerns about potential impersonation risks.
The spokesperson said that after further review, the reporter’s account has been restored and is currently operating normally, The New Arab reported.
