California Democratic lawmakers introduced a bill Wednesday that would ban U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from leasing vehicles from car rental companies.
bill Introduced by Assemblymember Jessica Caloza, D-52, with Assemblymember Liz Ortega, D-20, listed as its primary co-author.
The text of the bill reads: “Existing laws generally regulate the following businesses: Taxi bus to the public. The law prohibits rental companies from taking a variety of actions, including requiring the purchase of damages, optional insurance, or other optional goods or services, and using electronic monitoring technology to track lessees in order to impose fines or surcharges for the lessee’s use of the leased vehicle. ”

The text of the bill also states that it would “prohibit rental companies from leasing vehicles to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”
