The Champions League stage is over – we know eight teams will reach the last 16, but who will now have two extra games on their schedule to earn the right to join them, and who will they face?

Top eight teams—— arsenal, Bayern Munich, liverpool, tottenham hotspur, barcelona, chelsea, sports and Manchester City – have both qualified for the next round of the Champions League, but we still don’t know who they will face in the knockout stages.

Here’s everything you need to know about the play-off draw and who’s involved…

How will the play-offs work?

Teams ranked 9th to 24th in the league stage will now play a two-leg playoff to determine which eight teams will advance to the round of 16 as unseeded teams, while their opponents will be determined based on the teams that finish in the top eight.

Every play-off team already knows from their league standings that they will end up going one of two paths. For example, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, ranked 9th and 10th, will face Bodo/Glimt and Benfica, ranked 23rd and 24th, respectively in the play-offs. 11th and 12th are the same as 1st or 21st and 22nd, and so on. Who will play will be decided in the knockout draw.

Teams from the same national association able Play against each other at this stage – just like teams that play each other in the league stage.
