French lawmakers approve bill to abolish ‘marriage duty’ after concerns about consent




French lawmakers on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill abolishing the term “marital duty,” after criticism from women’s rights groups that it undermines sexual consent and enables marital rape. Supported by more than 120 lawmakers, the law clarifies that cohabitation does not obligate spouses to have sex and now goes to the Senate for approval.
