Player ratings as Holland miss penalty in disappointing draw

Manchester City’s quest to end their miserable run continues after they drew 1-1 with Everton on Boxing Day and have won just one of their last 13 games in all competitions.

City started brightly and took a deserved lead on 14 minutes through Bernardo Silva, with the Portugal international picking up a smart pass from Jeremy Docu and dropping the ball into the back of the net courtesy of Jarrad Branthwaite’s deflection.

Silva should have had a second and City’s complacency was punished in the first half as Iliman Ndiaye sent an instinctive volley – Everton’s first touch in the City box – fizzing into the top corner to tie things up at the interval.

Jordan Pickford referred to his trusty water bottle for instructions to save Erling Haaland’s penalty shortly after the restart. The striker finally headed home, only to see the offside flag raised immediately and extend City’s frustration.
