Gautam Gambhir sacked after T20 World Cup 2026, VVS Laxman told to be ready

Former India national cricket team batsman Manoj Tiwary talks about when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should sack Gautam Gambhir as the full-tournament head coach.

Manoj Tiwary said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should make a bold call to sack Gautam Gambhir as head coach if he fails to win the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir – Monster T20I Coach

Ever since Gambhir took over as the all-round head coach of India, he has completely transformed the team. The Men in Blue have begun playing an aggressive form of cricket that is not just limited to the batting department.

Apart from playing attacking cricket with the bat, India also showed sheer aggression with the ball and field.

The Gautam Gambhir-Suryakumar Yadav duo has brought huge success to the Indian team and now, even without the superstar culture, India T20Is are considered the best in the world with all 15 players in the team making sensational contributions.

Overall, India won 24 of the 28 T20I matches under Gambhir’s leadership and registered 12 victories in the 20 ODI matches. His Test numbers as head coach look bleak as he has won just seven of 19 games.

BCCI should take big decision if Gautam Gambhir fails to win T20 World Cup 2026: Manoj Tiwary

In a recent interaction, Manoj Tiwary said that although the BCCI has provided good support to Gambhir, they should actually sack him after the 2026 T20 World Cup if India does not lift the trophy

“If Gautam Gambhir fails to win the 2026 T20 World Cup, then the BCCI should take a big and difficult decision. The BCCI secretary said that we will continue to work with Gambhir till his contract expires. But if the 2026 T20 World Cup does not bring results for Gambhir, I think the BCCI will take big action and sack him,” Insidesport quoted Tiwari as saying.

In my opinion, BCCI should convince him as he is a level-headed person – Manoj Tiwary on VVS Laxman

Manoj Tiwary further said that BCCI should follow proper procedures while appointing Gautam Gambhir’s successor. Tiwari backed Laxman to take over as India’s new head coach as he is a level-headed person and a very good person.

“It has to be a process-driven thing. When Rahul Dravid was the coach of India, if he missed any series, the natural choice would be V vs Laxman. Laxman has always had a good win rate as a head coach. In my opinion, the BCCI should convince him because he is a level-headed person and a very good person. He has coaching experience as well.”

The Men in Blue will enter the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Championship as heavy favorites and if they can win the title, it will be Gambhir’s third major trophy as India head coach.
