Manchester United Now reportedly mulling a January move to sign an impressive contract Premier League The forward who currently has more points than Benjamin Cescó.
Manchester United eyeing Premier League striker
While much of United’s attention is focused on welcoming midfield reinforcements over the next month, it’s difficult to compare with the likes of Ruben Nevesthey can also add another offensive starter.
Without the influence of Brian Mbemo at the Africa Cup of Nations and the ever-reliable Bruno Fernandes against Wolves, the Red Devils would have struggled to single out the worst team in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
This was an incredibly disappointing display Ruben AmorimThe team only gave the Wolves their third point of the season. It summed up their attacking struggles when Joshua Zirkzee was substituted for tactical reasons at half-time, despite the fact that United were already short of options.
Amorim confirmed the decision, tell reporters: “We were running around and trying to keep the ball. We struggled against their midfielders and sometimes the offense is better with fewer forwards. We were playing with three forwards and sometimes that wasn’t the best way to attack.”
If the solution to United’s attacking problems is to remove a striker from the wing, then that in itself is a problem. There’s no denying that Ineos laid the foundations for an improved attack with the signings of Mbemo and Matheus Cunha, but while they impressed, Sesco underperformed.
The expensive striker could suffer the same fate as Zirkzee as he struggled against Wolves. The former RB Leipzig star is still only 22 and has the potential to become a world-class player, but he may not be the answer at the moment.
Instead, it could be another Premier League star. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester United now considering signing Jean-Philippe Mateta in the January transfer window.
‘Fantastic’ Mateta to complete United’s attack
With around 18 months to go until the end of his contract at Crystal Palace, and with a new deal unlikely at the moment, United could offer the Eagles an early opportunity to cash in on Mata.
The Frenchman has made the most unexpected progress in the Premier League, surpassing Sesco’s goals this season despite a recent dip in form.

One issue United should be worried about is that Mateta’s performance this season has actually been poor. Based on his XG, the French striker should have around 10 Premier League goals this season, not just the seven he has scored.
It’s a pity that he is still an upgraded version of the young Sesco, who himself is only one goal shy of his performance in the Premier League.
Whether Crystal Palace can seize the opportunity to cash in on Mateta is now a big question. Received good reviews Oliver GlasnerHe called his forwards “amazing” back in February, but it seems unlikely they will sell their star players midway through the season.
