Chris Lynn makes BBL history as first batsman to score 4,000 runs


Adelaide forward cricketer Chris Lynn achieved a huge milestone against his former team Brisbane Heat in the ongoing BBL 2025-26 season. The right-handed batsman reached the first player in the history of Big Bash League to complete 4,000 runs with six runs.

Brisbane Heat got off to a disastrous start after being asked to bat, collapsing early at Adelaide Oval. Their top player failed to handle the pressure, resulting in the team losing 21 from 5 shots. The Adelaide forward bowlers put pressure on the opposition batsmen, scoring just 121 runs in 20 under overs.

Lynn pushed Xavier Bartlett out for six over mid-wicket on the last ball of the fourth over. This powerful hit took him past the 4,000-run mark in his 300th T20 match. As that song entered the crowd, Lynn etched his name in BBL history.

The Strikers completed their run chase with more than five drives remaining. Chris Lynn scored an unbeaten 79 off 41 balls, which included six boundaries and as many sixes. Matthew Short (19 points on 27 shots) was the team’s second-leading scorer. Ollie Patterson, Xavier Bartlett and Thomas Barkin took one wicket each.

Brisbane Heat are bowled out for 121 in 19.4 overs

Adelaide Strikers put the pressure on Brisbane Heat from the start. Brisbane lost key batsmen including Colin Munro, Lachlan Hearn, Matt Renshaw and Max Bryant as they fell to 21 runs from five overs. Liam Scott conceded just 12 runs in four overs and took two wickets.

There was a brief fightback from captain Xavier Bartlett, who hit a few big knocks to increase the tempo, but he was dismissed during the power surge, ending any hopes of a recovery. The forwards maintained a ruthless attitude and never let the momentum change. Matthew Kuhnemann topped the list with an unbeaten 31 points.

Jamie Overton was the top bowler with an impressive performance of 3 for 19. He dismissed key batsmen including Jack Wildermuth and Xavier Bartlett. Liam Scott and Hasan Ali took two wickets each.
