Let’s start with the amazing history of Bitcoin. In the period from 2012 to 2025, Bitcoin was the world’s best performing asset in 10 of those years. And in many of those years, it wasn’t even close. In 2013, for example, the price of Bitcoin increased by 5,428%. In 2017, Bitcoin soared 1,375%.

What is particularly surprising is Bitcoin’s ability to grow at an exponential rate over such a long period of time. In 2013, a single Bitcoin would have set you back $10. In December 2024, Bitcoin finally crossed the $100,000 price threshold. This is exponential growth at work: Bitcoin has grown from $10 to $100 to $1,000 to $10,000 and now to $100,000.

Of course, past performance is no guarantee of future performance. Just because Bitcoin grew at an exponential rate in the past doesn’t mean it will in the future. However, there is certainly an expectation that Bitcoin will remain a mainstream investment prospect for years to come.

In fact, many top analysts and strategists think that Bitcoin’s exponential growth rate will continue for a decade or even longer. Bitcoin bulls are already promoting the concept of “Bitcoin super cycle.” This refers to a time period when Bitcoin could be on a decade-long winning streak, fueled by a faster pace of institutional adoption and aggressive pro-crypto policies from the White House.

Conversely, Bitcoin has been a boom or bust asset for almost its entire existence. Every few years, the bottom falls out of the Bitcoin price. And this happens with alarming regularity. In 2014, 2018 and 2022, Bitcoin fell in price by 57% or more. The “Bitcoin Supercycle” theory suggests that these epic price collapses will soon be a statistical relic of the past.
