
Bulgaria will officially adopt the euro as its currency starting January 1, leaving behind the lev it has used since the end of the 19th century. The move is unpopular with nearly half of the country’s population over fears it could trigger higher inflation, something distrustful authorities are trying to downplay. Also in this edition: Budapest’s central district is banning short-term rentals from this January in an attempt to tackle the housing crisis.
