In a major development for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expanded its coaching ranks under the guidance of Yograj Singh, offering a position to legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj Singh as India coach?
Yuvraj’s father, Yugraj Singh, has publicly pushed for the idea, stressing that Indian cricket was missing out by not capitalizing on the experience and knowledge of one of its greatest match-winners. The former cricketer noted that Yuvraj has earned global respect and will continue to be involved in cricket around the world. Despite this, Indian cricket has yet to fully utilize his expertise.

The coach stressed that the two-time World Cup winner has little to gain personally but has a lot to offer, especially given his unique understanding of mental strength, discipline and resilience. The legendary all-rounder has competed at the highest level, endured pressure on the biggest stages and returned to international cricket after overcoming cancer.
Yograj Singh told the famous Ravish Bisht, “When you have someone like Yuvraj Singh Why don’t you choose him when you do that; he has nothing to lose. The cricketing fraternity all over the world embraced him. He was born in this country and you didn’t take his services.”
Yograj Singh urges BCCI to give key role to Yuvraj Singh
He believes Yuvraj can play a key mentoring role for India’s next generation of stars. Yograj cited how young batsmen like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have benefited a lot from Yuvraj’s guidance. In view of his successful coaching, he publicly requested the BCCI to give Yuvraj a special role.
Yograj added: “All I can say is accept Yuvraj’s services. He holds on to Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma; they are going to be the future of India. I think you should groom him and respect him, bring him into the Indian cricket team, while you are here to do the work for BCCI and make us players. So, I think that’s the way to respect those who have served the country.”

Recently, Australian youngster Jerrsis Wadia revealed that he idolized Yuvraj Singh since his childhood and later became a fan of Virat Kohli and Travis Head. The young batsman now headlines the BBL 2025-26 with the Adelaide Strikers. He impressed everyone with his brutal attack on Jack Wildermuth of the Brisbane Heat, scoring 24 points in a single game.
Speaking on BBL’s The Surge podcast, Wadia said: “Growing up, Yuvraj Singh also went through a very difficult period in his life when he was suffering from cancer and came back in a spectacular way. He is a hero of mine. After him, obviously, Virat Kohli as an Indian Kohli, especially the way he dominated white-ball cricket, especially the one-day format, it was mainly his mentality.”
