‘The Wire’ star and HBO actor Isiah Whitlock Jr. dies at 71

“The Wire” stars Isiah Whitlock Jr. already dead. He is 71 years old.

Whitlock died peacefully at New York His agent, Brian Liebman, confirmed the news to The Associated Press on Tuesday after battling a brief illness.

Whitlock is best known for his role as corrupt state Sen. Clay Davis on the HBO series “The Wire.”

Liebman took it Go to Instagram Tuesday to commemorate the days since Whitlock’s death.

“It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my dear friend and client Isiah Whitlock Jr. If you knew him, you loved him. He was a wonderful actor and an even better person. May his memory always be a blessing. Our hearts are so broken. He will be missed so, so much,” Liebman wrote alongside a photo of the actor.

Whitlock also had a breakout role in “Veep,” playing U.S. Secretary of Defense George Maddox.

The actor has also appeared in some of Spike Lee’s films, including “BlacKkKlansman,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “She Hate Me,” “25th Hour,” “Red Hook Summer” and “Chi-Raq.”

In “25,” Whitlock introduced his signature phrase “sheeeeeit,” his interpretation of “sh-t.” His quote became so popular that The Wire’s writers decided to incorporate it into his character’s lingo.
