Official data on Wednesday showed China’s manufacturing activity expanded for the first time since March, beating expectations.
The official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index came in at 50.1 in December, higher than the 49.2 forecast by economists polled by Reuters and higher than November’s 49.2. Readings above 50 indicate expansion.
The composite PMI rose to 50.7 from 49.7 in November, indicating broader improvements across the economy.
China’s non-manufacturing PMI, which covers services and construction, rose to 50.2 from 49.5 in November.
