
In many first time it’s over. At the start of the wait for season two of the Apple TV series, new minted fans of lead actor Rhea Seehorn fans of his work discovered something Better Call Saul enjoyed years ago: his early career role as a Magic: The Gathering video game tutorial sorceress.
This piece of nerdy trivia dovetails nicely with Seehorn’s character In manyCarol Sturka, who is a romance author—appears again in NPRs Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! podcast. Seehorn, a guest panelist on the show, was asked about his first credit listed on IMDB. It was a long time ago Better Call Saul or In manyback in 1997, he played “the tutorial sorceress” in Magic: The Gathering video game.
“It’s very early work, yes,” Seehorn said in response. “In the original game it was, like, card game software. But it had a tutorial … about how to navigate the game. And me and an actor named Reggie, we played a witch and a witch.”
He continued. “The budget was so low that they didn’t have shoes, but they wanted us to look like we were wearing gladiator sorcerer boots or something.
Asked if he had played the game, Seehorn explained, “I was so happy that my picture was on the back that I went to Best Buy. I couldn’t afford any game back then—like $45 or something. I showed them the picture on the back, and I was like, ‘This is me, oh my god! I did that! Will you give me a copy?’
Alas, Best Buy hasn’t coughed up a freebie before—but Seehorn’s legacy lives on forever as part of Magic. The NPR interviewer even wondered how many “aging nerds” saw him In many and thought he was somehow familiar.
