Arsenal secured their Premier League title qualification with a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa, but Manchester United struggled against lowly Wolves.

Arsenal ended Aston Villa’s 11-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory to move five points clear at the top of the Premier League, while Chelsea and Manchester United squandered chances to finish in the top four.

Wolves picked up just their third point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, while Chelsea took one win in seven league games after being held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth in England’s top flight on Saturday.

Earlier this month, Arsenal avenged their only defeat in their past 25 games in all competitions at Villa Park to firmly take control of the title race.

Doubts over Villa’s ability to play more than 38 games alongside Arsenal and Manchester City were realized as Unai Emery’s side were soundly beaten in the second half at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal breathed a sigh of relief after Villa had a chance through Ollie Watkins in a tense first 45 minutes.

Mikel Arteta’s side could once again rely on set-pieces to break the deadlock, with Gabriel Magalhaas beating Emi Martinez to score on his return to the starting line-up from a hamstring injury.

Martin Odegaard’s lovely through ball then set up Martin Zubimendi to quickly double the Gunners’ lead.

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus then shot from outside the penalty area, two high-quality shots that rubbed salt into the visitors’ wounds.

Watkins scored a consolation goal but third-placed Villa are six points behind the leaders.

City can close the gap at the top of the table to two points when they travel to Sunderland on January 1.

Wolves end losing streak against Manchester United

Manchester United squandered yet another opportunity at Old Trafford to improve their chances of returning to the Champions League next season.

Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected shot gave the Red Devils the lead, but Ladislav Krejci’s header ended Wolves’ 12th consecutive defeat.

Ruben Amorim’s side remain in sixth place, two points below the top four.

Chelsea failed to lift the gloom at Stamford Bridge, with Enzo Maresca’s decision to replace Cole Palmer met with boos from frustrated home fans.

David Brooks got the Cherries off to the perfect start but Bournemouth soon showed why they have conceded more goals away from home than any other team in England’s top flight.

Palmer equalized from the penalty spot before Enzo Fernandez was given acres of space to fire into the top corner.

But Chelsea failed to respond for the second time in 27 minutes when Justin Kluivert turned the ball over from Antoine Semenyo’s pass.

The home fans were disappointed with Maresca’s decision to replace Palmer with Joao Pedro after the game, with the Blues still in fifth place.

Newcastle United recorded their second away win of the season but fell into disgrace after a fantastic start with a 3-1 win over lowly Burnley.

Goals from Joelinton and Eoin Visa gave the Magpies a 2-0 lead within seven minutes.

Josh Laurent halved the lead midway through the first half and Burnley hit the woodwork twice in the closing stages in a bid for an equalizer before Bruno Guimarães sealed victory for Eddie Howe’s side.

A depleted Everton moved into the top half of the table after beating former boss Sean Dyche for the second time in a month at Nottingham Forest.

The Toffees have not scored since a 3-0 win over Forest on December 6, but goals from James Garner and Tierno Barry keep Dyche’s side just four points above the relegation zone.

Things could have been much worse for Forest had West Ham not gone ahead twice to draw 2-2 at home to Brighton.
