Apart from regular injections of heroes and villains from the Marvel multiverse, Rivals‘ Cosmetic skins keep the game fresh with riffs on iconic comic book looks, paying homage to the movies from MCU (and beyond), and lots of fun original ideas. But one of them most luxurious skins yet an amazing combination of inventiveness and comic knowledge to make one of the best games ever. useless supporting heroes to a goddess goddess.

After a few teases here and there in recent weeks, NetEase has now revealed the first official look at one of the most interesting ideas for a skin: a complete gender swap of Loki. Inspired by Lady Loki’s appearance after her rebirth after Ragnarok in 2007 Thor run, the new skin is not just a model change for Loki because he now appears in the game; he has his own unique animations and voice acting, provided by Dan Da DanAbby Trott (which is already familiar with Rivals community as the voice of Illyana Rasputina, aka Magik). On top of that, he has a fun, unique emote that has evolved and the usual special MVP animation.

There are many Rivals previous skins that have changed voice lines and sound effects, and many that have given some radical overhaul to a character’s silhouette. And, of course, there are many skins that cover everything Rivals‘ cast, male and female alike, with less dangerous skin showing. But what makes Lady Loki unique is what she represents in terms of a completely gender-swapping character, which Rivals never done before (outside of creative PC modders do it themselves for fun, that is).

This opens up a very interesting set of flood gates for what the game can do next in terms of similar skins for other members of its roster. Loki’s brother Thor is an easy potential next step, of course, giving us a skin based on Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. Although they are different comic book characters, the arrival of Deadpool in the game the next few weeks may leave us open to a Gwenpool variant, or one of the many female Spider-heroes will be a stand-in for Peter. It doesn’t just have to be gender changes but can also show shared identities and cloaks like Jean Gray and Madelyne Pryor, who shed Jean’s skin. fiery phoenix abilities with the demonic powers of the Goblin Queen.

You can’t go ALSO far from it, of course-otherwise, you risk disappointing fans of characters who become interesting mirrors, or changing, current cast members who see their favorites reduced to a skin rather than their own flesh-out, unique member of the roster (no one wants to see She-Hulk, X-23, or Sam Wilson’s Cap not get their own unique self, and Steve, Bruce, for example). But it’s still a fun new path for Rivals to begin exploring, now that the seal on the proverbial Pandora’s box has been opened by Loki himself.
