George Clooney is making the rounds for his latest film, Netflix’s Jay Kellywhich casts the rich, successful, beautiful, award-winning movie star as… a rich, successful, beautiful, award-winning movie star. But while the fictional character Clooney plays has a bit of sadness and regret lurking beneath his glowing facade, the real man seems to be having the time of his life holding a mirror up to his career. Case in point: his extremely happy memories about Batman and Robin on a new Variety video interview.
It’s a movie that Clooney has talked about before; in 2020, he admitted to Howard Stern, “I’m terrible at it.” In 2021, he said he was not surprised at all he was not invited to be part of Batman’s cavalcade in The Flash movie because his movie helped “break the franchise.” However, he seems to have a sense of humor that makes him laugh Batman and Robin in this new chat, specifically about the movie’s most famous and enduring contribution to pop culture: the Bat-nipples!
“I’m the best Batman, and you know it, and I know it,” he joked to the camera. “And I don’t want to hear anything. All the other boys…”
Continuing a bit, he added, “You know, Batman has nipples, dude. He’s got nipples. How do you think he feeds babies? Little bats? So I don’t want to hear any bullshit. I’m the best Batman, you know.”
Shifting to a slightly more serious tone, Clooney recalled that “It wasn’t the most fun shoot because of the suit. It was a very painful suit, and you couldn’t move. I’d put up a board, and Joel Schumacher would guide you with a microphone with a giant speaker. And he’d go, ‘Okay, George, and here we are, and ready, and you… there’s no action left to live!
“And they’ll just support me and I’ll say, ‘I’m Batman.’ And they go, ‘Aaaand cut!’ And they threw me back, and they brought me on a board. And those are my experiences,” he laughs. “I should have realized it wasn’t going to be a hit right away.”
He added sadly—while clearly joking—”I’m ashamed.” You can watch the full range of videos here.
