Share player ratings points as Hammers and Seagulls

Spoils were shared in east London on Saturday afternoon as West Ham and Brighton played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

After breaking their seagull hoodoo at the Amex last season, West Ham were still looking for their first girl. Premier League Victory over Brighton at the London Stadium. They triumphed on Saturday in better form than their visitors, who are winless in four, and Julen Lopetegui’s side have made a good start on home soil.

The Hammers tried to exploit Brighton’s high defensive line with long balls and switches of play, with Jarrod Bowen in particular relishing the space given to him. Bowen made the first save of Bart Verbruggen, who had not been tested so much in the opening period.

After a haphazard start, the visitors grew into the contest and started picking on the hosts in the build-up. Brighton looked a threat and it was a joy to attract West HamNo central midfielders in areas they didn’t want to defend. However, the Seagulls proved ineffective in the final third and both sides went into half-time goalless.

A fairly physical contest burst into life early in the second half with goals coming at both ends of the pitch. After Mats Wiffer netted his first Brighton A goal to open the scoring, Lopetegui’s substitutions paid dividends as Bowen, who moved into a central position, drove at the Seagulls defense and forced another save from Verbruggen. The rebound was led by Mohamed Qudus.

However, Ghana’s leveler failed to ignite the hosts, and Lopetegui eventually switched to a 5-4-1 to re-establish control without possession. The encounter then developed into a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with both teams, especially Brighton, creating worthy chances to win the contest.

However, some excellent last-ditch Hammers defending resulted in no killer touches.
