Eurostar on Tuesday urged passengers to change their travel plans as overhead power problems forced the closure of the Channel Tunnel.
“Due to an overhead power supply issue and the subsequent Le Shuttle train failure, the Channel Tunnel is currently closed. Unfortunately this means we have no choice but to suspend all services today until further notice.” explain A statement posted on its website warned of “significant disruption.”
“Please do not come to the station. We apologize for the impact this situation may have on your travel plans,” the company said.
The disruption brought one of Europe’s busiest international rail corridors to a near standstill during the New Year travel season.
Photos posted showed dozens of people gathered around luggage at London’s St Pancras train station and long queues of passengers waiting to enter the Eurotunnel at the Eurotunnel site in Folkestone, Kent.
Eurostar operates flights from London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, carrying 19.5 million passengers in 2024, mark It was the most successful year in its history.
