
Macclesfield striker Ethan McLeod has died in a car crash on his way home from a game, the club has confirmed.
The 21-year-old was involved in an incident on the M1 on Tuesday night on his way back from a National League North match at Bedford Town.
McLeod plays for Wolves and will leave the club in the 2024/25 season. That season he had spells at Rushall and Stourbridge before joining Macclesfield.
A club statement read: “Ethan is an extremely talented and respected member of our first team who has his whole life ahead of him.
“But more importantly, Ethan’s infectious personality endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.
“Ethan puts his best foot forward in everything he does and effortlessly pushes all of us to be our best – both on and off the field.
“Ethan’s professionalism and unwavering work ethic inspired everyone, and his lust for life put a smile on all of our faces – even on the darkest of days.
“The news of Ethan’s passing has devastated our entire club and there are no words to express the immense sadness and loss we are feeling right now.
“There is no denying that the deep emotional trauma caused by Ethan’s death will never heal – but one thing is for sure, Ethan’s vibrant legacy will never fade away, no matter how long into the future.
“Ethan will always live in our hearts and minds and whatever the future holds, his unique smile that fascinated us all will never be forgotten.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to Ethan’s family and friends at this deeply traumatic time and pledge that we will provide as much support as possible to those in need.
