Meta Office has partnered on Tuesday an update on this AI glasses which will allow you to better hear people speaking when you are in a noisy environment. The feature will initially be available on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses in the US and Canada, the company said. In addition, the glasses got another update that allows you to use Spotify to play a song that matches what you’re currently watching.
For example, if you’re looking at an album cover, the glasses can play a song by that artist. Or if you’re looking at your Christmas tree with lots of presents, you can play holiday music. This addition is more than a gimmick, of course, but it shows how Meta thinks about connecting what people see with the actions they can take in their apps.
The focus part of the conversation, meanwhile, seems more practical. First announced at Meta’s Connect conference earlier this year, the feature uses the AI glasses’ open-ear speakers to amplify the voice of the person you’re talking to. Meta says smart glasses wearers can also adjust the level of amplification by swiping on the right temple of their glasses, or through the device’s settings. This will allow them to set the level to more accurately fit their current environment, whether that is a busy restaurant or bar, club, commuter train, or anything else.
How well the feature works, of course, remains to be tested. However, the idea of using smart accessories as hearing aids is not limited to Meta. Apple’s AirPods already offer a The Conversation Enhancement feature designed to help you focus on the person you’re talking to, and the Pro models recently added support for a about a clinical-grade Hearing Aid as well.
While the conversation focus feature is limited to the US and Canada, the Spotify feature is offered in English in many markets, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, UK, and US
The software update (v21) will be available first to those enrolled in Meta’s Early Access Program, who must first participate in a waitlist and approved. It will later come out wider.
