Yashasvi Jaiswal battles discomfort
Jaiswal was batting unwell and failed to play a big role in the match. He scored 15 runs off 16 balls and was out after hitting 3 boundaries.
Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan played key roles in Mumbai’s chase. Rahane remained unbeaten with his clinical and steady batting while Sarfaraz blasted 73 runs off just 22 balls. Sarfaraz’s performance also earned him an IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings.
Although Jaiswal failed in this match, he performed well overall. He scored 145 points in three games with an average of 48.33 and a shooting percentage of 168.6. The left-hander also hit a brilliant century to help Mumbai chase 235 against Haryana.
Jaiswal is not part of the India T20I squad and does not feature in international matches immediately. This gives him time to rest and fully recover ahead of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
Yashasvi Jaiswal last played for India in South Africa ODI
Yashasvi Jaiswal last played for India in the recent ODI series against South Africa. He struggled in the first two matches but bounced back in the final match on December 6 in Visakhapatnam.
The left-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 116 to help India chase 271 easily. He also shared an opening partnership of 155 runs with Rohit Sharma, winning by nine wickets.
Overall, Jaiswal scored 156 runs in three games. Notably, this is his first ODI century. Jaiswal is likely to be named in the Indian squad for the ODI series against New Zealand starting from January 11. However, with Shubman Gill expected to return as captain, he may struggle to find a place in the starting XI.
