A pregnant woman in San Francisco gave birth inside a waymo robotaxi Monday night to go on a five-month experience on one wheel to ride the car.
According to STANDHT STANDATEWayMo’s remote team detected “unusual activity” and called 911, even though the car beat the emergency services at the hospital.
Some traditions, it seems, are inevitable to be destroyed. For decades, expectant mothers have raced against biology in the back seats of cabs and Ubers from London to Los Angeles. There is the mother of India who named his son Uber After giving birth to him to go to the hospital (the driver reportedly helped in the delivery). There was also a couple in California in 2017 who welcomed their baby in an Uber During Shabbat. “Everybody told us to name Baby Uber,” the father joked, before adding, “but we couldn’t do that.” (Ah, well, they can!)
The stories go on and on. Today, Silicon Valley has an automated experience, at least in part.
The car in San Francisco was immediately taken for cleaning. Plus, this isn’t Waymo’s first birth — the company says the pattern was first captured by a Phoenix baby. “While this is a rare occurrence,” a WayMo spokesperson added, “Some of our newest riders can’t wait to experience their first waymo ride.”
