GoFundMe’s 2025 “Year of Help” review found that its crowdfunding platform was increasingly being used by Americans to raise funds for basic financial needs.
“Monthly Bills” was the second fastest growing category on the platform behind “Charity”.
The review found that the most common words in this year’s fundraiser descriptions were “work,” “food,” “bill,” “home,” “care,” and “love.”
GoFundMe said fundraising for essential expenses was up 20% and more fundraisers were started food banks than any other community cause.

“For example, we saw people saying they were behind on the month’s rent and looking to friends and family to help them get through the next month or two,” the CEO said. said Tim Cadogan CBS News “This shows us that life is getting more expensive and people are struggling with it, so they are reaching out to friends and family to see if they can help.”

The survey also found that many voters, including Republicans, complain the increase in costs for groceries, utilities, health and housing this year.
