Bill Clinton left the hospital after treatment for the flu

Former US President Bill Clinton will be home for Christmas after being released from a hospital in Washington, DC, where he was being treated for the flu.

The 78-year-old Democrat was admitted Monday afternoon with a fever.

A spokesman said Clinton was released Tuesday with credit for the care he received at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

A spokesman said Clinton extends her warmest wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy holiday season. Clinton, who served two terms as president between 1993 and 2001, campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential race this fall.

In the years since Clinton left the White House, he has faced some health scares.

In 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery after prolonged chest pains and shortness of breath. In 2005, Clinton returned to the hospital for surgery on a partially collapsed lung, and in 2010, he had a pair of coronary artery stents implanted.

Clinton responded by adopting a mostly vegan diet that saw him lose weight and report improved health.

The former president is 2021 hospitalized for six days in California while being treated for an infection unrelated to COVID-19, while the pandemic was still near its peak.
