Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has pointed the finger at Marcus Rashford’s staff for advising him to interview him over his future at the club.
After Rashford was dropped from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, he “A new challenge“, accepting his departure from the club was a case of “when” rather than “if”.
Amorim has since left Rashford out of his last two squads but has refused to close the door on the 27-year-old, who he believes should question the advice of those close to him.
“It’s a difficult situation,” Amorim said Sky Sports. “I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, they make choices that are not the first thought of the player.
“I’m always here to help Marcus as another player. I have to do what I have to do. They chose to do the interview because it’s not just Marcus. I understand that. As a coach I see the performance and the way you focus. Focused on. The rest, it’s better for me and the club to deal with it when the time comes.
“At the moment I am focused on improving Marcus and we need someone as talented as Marcus. I forget the interview now and see what I see on the pitch.”
United are reported to be open to selling Rashford for around £40m in 2025, slashing their previous £100m valuation in an attempt to persuade the club to move on for the out-of-form forward earning more than £300,000 a week.
co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to stay out of the whole situationAmorim is happy to let Rashford deal with the selection issues despite the conundrum that may have caused his continued neglect.
