American Airlines Flights were grounded across the country on Tuesday morning due to technical issues, disrupting travel during a period when airlines expect record holiday demand.
However, an American Airlines spokesperson told CNBC that the ground stop had been canceled by 7:55 a.m. ET.
“A technical issue is affecting U.S. flights this morning,” a spokesperson said. “Our teams are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
It was unclear what the cause of the technical issue was or how many flights were affected.
FAA says American Airlines has requested ground stop
Airlines often require ground stops to reserve flights at origin so that destination airports are not overcrowded with flights due to disruptions and have nowhere to park. In addition to technical issues, ground stops were implemented for thunderstorms and other severe weather.
Correction: A ground stop order was issued Tuesday. An earlier version misstated the time.
