“We can reconfirm that according to the family and the people we are interviewing, he does come from a conservative family. But his ideology is very different from his family, so that’s part of it.”

Cox, a Republican, did not elaborate on Robinson’s suspicious motives, but said the suspect spent time online in “dark places.”

“We do know that this is a very ordinary young man, a very smart young man,” Cox said.

Robinson registered as a nonpartisan voter in Utah, while his parents registered as a Republican, according to public records.

In another interview with CNN ITU State, Cox said that information about Robinson’s left-wing views came from interviews with family and friends.

“I’m not really in this fight,” Cox said.

“That’s not what they shared.”

Cox also confirmed that Robinson had a romantic relationship with his trans roommate, who transitioned from male to female.

“This partner is very cooperative and didn’t know it was happening and was working with investigators,” he said.

Cox said he didn’t know if Robinson’s relationship was related to the assassination, but authorities were investigating it.

“We tried to figure this out. I know everyone wants to know exactly why and pointing at the fingers, and I totally get it. I do the same, too.”

Kirk, the leader and co-founder of a youth activist group turn-around U.S. and a close ally of Trump, was shot dead in a speech at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Kirk was described in the media profile as a “rock star” among young conservatives and played a key role in pushing for youth voting in Trump’s November reelection.

Kirk is a polarized figure who is a defender of traditional values and a champion of freedom of speech by conservatives, but liberals see it as an incitement figure, with his hatred for racial minorities and members of the LGBTQ community.

Although both Republican and Democratic leaders condemned Kirk’s murder, the killings attracted attention to extreme political polarization, bringing everyday Americans to each other.

After Kirk’s assassination, some left-leaning Americans participated in social media celebrations, prompting anger against conservatives and online campaigns to make people perceived as disrespectful of Kirk’s memories ejaculate from their work.

On the right, some characters cite retribution and war.

“If they won’t be peaceful, then our choice is to fight or die,” tech billionaire Elon Musk said on X.

Trump quickly condemned the remarks of the “radical left” after Kirk’s killing, refusing the opportunity to emphasize the need for unification and avoiding the party’s reproach since his death.

Trump tried to portray left-wing extremism as worse than right-wing extremism when he spoke on Fox News’ Fox & Friends on Friday.

“Usually radicals are radical because they don’t want to see crime,” Trump said.

“The activists on the left are the problem, they are vicious and terrible, and politically savvy.”

Trump said in an interview with NBC News on Saturday that while he would like to see the country recover, “we are dealing with a group of radical Lunatics who are unfair and never did it.”

Kirk’s assassination prompted fears of a record increase in politically motivated attacks against further violence.

According to statistics from Reuters News Agency, the United States experienced at least 300 political violence between the U.S. Capitol and the 2024 presidential election on January 6, 2021, the worst period of violence since the 1970s.
