Susan Monarez’s lawyer says “She is still the CDC director” and only Trump has the right to “fire her”

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attorney Susan Monarez said late Wednesday that she still holds the position because only President Donald Trump can fire her.

In an article on X, the lawyer said White House staff at the Office of Personnel notified Monares on Wednesday. But lawyers say Monares is the president’s appointment, so only Trump can remove her.

“So we refuse to notify Dr. Monares is legally inadequate, and she remains a director of the CDC,” attorney Mark Zaid said in the Post. “We have informed our position of the White House attorney.”

This is the latest turmoil in the CDC-led unrest. The statement is in a few hours White House It was said that Monares fired Monares after refusing to resign.

The Ministry of Health and Human Services said in a post on X that Monares said “no longer” in the Ministry of Health and Human Services. Shortly after the CDC director, at least four top health officials announced that they would resign.

Monarez is a long-time federal government scientist, Swearing in on July 31. She is a Senate-confirmed director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after a new law passed during the pandemic requires lawmakers to approve new laws to nominate the position.
