It looks like Meta is getting ready to add features to its popular line of Ray-Ban smart glasses, . These screens could show the upcoming iteration of the device as early as next year. The likely release window is the second half of 2025.
According to people familiar with Meta’s plans, the screens will be on the smaller side and will likely be used to display notifications or responses from Meta’s AI virtual assistant. It’s highly unlikely that the company plans to make it a full-fledged mixed-reality device just yet.
For that, Meta has which is a few more years. The same report indicated that the positive response to the Orion glasses likely accelerated development and possibly secured a commercial release. Not sure if the glasses will remain an in-house prototype.
Ray-Ban smart glasses have been a surprise hit for Meta, . They are beautiful to look at and admire. The current model includes in-ear speakers, camera, microphones and access to Meta’s virtual assistant.
I really like the simplicity of the current design, especially for taking photos and videos. My hope is that the screens do not interfere with that simplicity and that they do not come at the expense of, say, improvements in the camera system.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses, after all, are the perfect device for taking quick photos of a pet. Have you ever tried to get an animal to stay still so you can pull your phone out of a bag to take a picture? Those darned cuties never do. Ray-Bans solve that problem.
