Your guide to what Trumpet’s Second Terms mean for Washington, Business and World
UK Chancellor Rachel Reevels on Friday held his first formal talk at the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, with a “landing zone” for an organal trading deal, according to prison officials.
Reeves opened the British door cutting in the imports of car-made imports, including agricultural products, as he tried the Trump administration in the UK export administration.
Bussent appears inside the Starmer Government as a relatively Dovish number of tariffs, but there is an acknowledgment that trading decisions have finally been removed by the Oval Office. US inflicts a 10 percent base tariff in UK exports and a 25 percent levy of cars and steel.
UK officials say – without meeting the bussent before he’s trip to Washington this week – makes a “good discussion” of his US counterpart.
A person shortened by talks says: “Similarly with a landing zone for a trade deal but we haven’t been severe. The discussion will continue.”
US Treasury does not immediately answer a request for commentary.
Reeves, in Washington for World Bank and IMF spring meetings, praised by some financial elite in the world for his commitment to free trade reforms.
Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Director, said: “He tried tight issues, taking reprioritization of spending, going to war to do it.”
But the reeves are more popular at home, with opinion polls showing his scary approval rating that has fallen in the current weeks.
YouGov reported this month only 14 percent of those surveyed saying that they had a positive view of the Chancellor, with 62 percent holding a negative view. Score -48 represents the lowest reeves rating.
Reeves have this week trying to build Trump administration relationships by signing that some of the concerns regarding global trading system are good.
Referring to a British Embassy event in Washington on Thursday night, the Reeves fought in excessive trade-to-work-related China’s economic increase as well as benefits.
“The challenges mentioned by Donald Trump’s administration, about world global information, and we needed this host to Britain in US, Lord Peter Mayelson.
Reeves added trading investigations are not always related to “transparent policies”.
But he emphasized his Washington meetings that the UK continued to trust multilateral dialogue and institutions, and not at the tariffs, promoted bad trading wars.
