Canada: Expats worried as Quebec freezes immigration programs




In Canada, the Quebec provincial government has just announced, without warning, a freeze on permanent immigration. Two main programs are affected: the Regular Skilled Worker Program (PRTQ) and the graduate component of the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ). The opposition denounces a “lack of planning”, while immigrant rights groups accuse authorities of forcing thousands of skilled migrants to pay the price for a lack of political foresight.
