Lawrence Okolie’s coach Sugar Hill says a rematch against Chris Billam-Smith is the “only way out” for Lawrence Okolie.
The two lightweights fought at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium last weekend in front of 15,000 fans, largely in support of Billam-Smith. A hard-fought 12-round contest ended with the crowd’s favorite team taking a majority decision.
His cornerback told Okolie he had a rematch clause if he lost boxing news They want a second fight.
“Yeah, that’s the only way out. You don’t want to wait and try for a rematch. You want to get it immediately. He obviously knows some of the things he did (mistakes) and he wants to correct those things. He wants to write his Wrong, he wants to win.”
What unfolded between the two fighting friends was a chaotic game filled with incidents, points deductions and Billam-Smith running through everything Okolie had to offer. Is Hill confident he can reverse the result in the rematch?
“I’m very confident about that,” he replied.
“I’m confident about this fight. I’m going to be confident every fight. That’s going to be something Lawrence and I talk about and want to work out for him. Maybe if I say peek-a-boo or something, he’ll come back to training camp It’s like, not so anxious. I don’t know. I’m a crazy thinker, so sometimes you have to think outside the box to make things work.”
Neighbors themselves told BN Later in his dressing room, he said he wanted a rematch next.
“It has to be. I’m not the kind of guy who likes to have these two fighting, this and that. Let’s run it back.”
Billam-Smith agrees Okolie just wants a chance at redemption.
“He’s a proud man. He’s a winner at heart and I think it makes sense for him and why wouldn’t he? You get another chance at the world title but I’m not knocking him out of the water . So, yes, I hope he wants a rematch.”
