The IPL mini-auctions have seen a slew of players fetched crazy prices, although some of the auctions seemed entirely reasonable and the credibility of some of them has come under heavy scrutiny.
Cameron Green might be making a huge amount of deserved money, but several players seem to be making a huge amount of money, which is unexpected for the cricketer. One of the cricketers, Matheesha Pathirana, a seasoned Lankan pacer, was bought for a crazy price of INR 180 million.
Here is the list of overpriced players in IPL 2026:
7. Madisha Patilana
Matheesha Pathirana was released by his former team Chennai Super Kings. Kolkata Knight Riders went to great lengths to secure his services; however, the player’s injury proneness and lack of bowling discipline raised questions about his crazy wallet.
Your daily dose of cricket!
It doesn’t look like making such a huge investment in a relatively young pacer is the smartest decision for the KKR management.
6. Mustafizur Rahman
Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizul was acquired for Rs 92 crore. There are huge doubts over his availability for the upcoming IPL and in such a scenario, the huge amount of money that Abhishek Nayar and Venky Mysore are investing in him seems crazy.
Rahman, however, is a bowler known for his white-ball prowess in the death overs.
5. Venkatesh Iyer
The former KKR batsman’s final bid reduction was the largest in IPL history. After a huge bid last season, Royal Challengers Bangalore picked him up in this auction for just Rs 7 crore.
Iyer has been out of form for over two years now, not just in the IPL but also in the domestic game. Iyer may not be the right number. No. 3 for RCB and that’s where they plan to put him.
4. Prashant Veer
The youngster from UP is undoubtedly a rising star who could give a stellar performance for the Super Kings. But for a player of his stature, and considering his lack of experience, an extremely high bonus never seemed like a reasonable offer for the Super Kings.
The batsmen will be placed at lower order and Veer will bear the burden of completing the innings for CSK. He was bought for 142 million rupees.
3. Karthik Sharma
Another youngster who also looks promising as he has developed into a serious hitter. However, considering Karthik’s insane price tag of Rs 14.2 crore, he will have to be forced into the starting XI.
For a 20-year-old batsman who only served as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the inning, the wallet-emptying bid seemed like a controversial decision.
2. Josh Inglis
Josh Inglis has told IPL teams that he will only be available for 25 per cent of the season and giving up Rs 860 crore doesn’t seem like a wise decision for a player who hasn’t even delivered a full season.
However, as Tom Moder becomes more committed to his bid, he appears to be included as part of his long-term plans.
1. Jason Holder
The West Indies all-rounder was not prioritized in the auction but suddenly fetched a whopping Rs 7 crore from the Gujarat Titans. With the departure of Siervan Rutherford, GT may have an overseas spot in the XI, but Holding is by no means an ideal fit.
Holder’s selection is therefore a very questionable one for the Ashesh Nehra-led side.
